A selection of quotes from today's MotoGP pre-event press conference, held at the scene of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.

Casey Stoner (Ducati Marlboro)
"Laguna is starting to feel like a second home GP, as we only have one in Australia. The atmosphere really impressed me last year, and I feel more at home here than at a lot of European circuits.

"All of the U.S. riders have hit form, so it will be a hard battle. Most bikes will be pretty similar, so it should hopefully be a close race. The first part of the season was a bit of a surprise for us, but now we are discovering why we are ahead of the others."

Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda)
"It's a great feeling to come home as the World Champion, but that was last year already. I was in a different situation when I got here in 2006, but we've got better in the last couple of weeks. Now I just have to try and get good info to give to my crew; it's pretty obvious that I need to improve in qualifying.

"Honda was clearly the best bike last year with the 990cc, and now they haven't got the best on the grid. I'm not going to whine and complain though, everyone's in a good mood now!"

John Hopkins (Rizla Suzuki)
"I want to put on a show for the fans here. A lot of my family are here and my friends from school. I know that I have my work cut out here though even to beat my team-mate, because this is one of Chris' favourite tracks just as it is one of mine. He did well last year, and I'm trying to be consistent right now to get up into third place in the championship."

Colin Edwards (Fiat Yamaha)
"Half of Texas come here to Laguna for me and, even though I wasn't so lucky last year, it has still been good to me.

"The resurfacing reminds me of when they resurfaced Donington. Last year Laguna was more like a motorcross circuit, but I think that I only found one bump here when going round on my scooter.

"Here is a real game: new surface and a new bike. How the hell do you know what tyres to choose? The biggest gamble of the weekend takes place right now with the choices."

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda)
"Last year was very good for me, Sachsenring too. I know that the race will be long, and that it won't be as warm as last year. I was surprised to be so fast back in 2006."
