This weekend five-time former premier class World Champion Valentino Rossi heads to one of the three current MotoGP circuits where he has yet to taste victory, determined to set that record straight and bounce straight back from his Sachsenring disappointment.

The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix provides Rossi with the chance to secure his first ever win at Laguna Seca and make up ground on World Championship leader Casey Stoner - after crashing out in Germany and seeing his Australian rival come home fifth to extend the gap between the pair at the head of the general classification to 32 points.

In addition to Laguna, Rossi has Istanbul Park (MotoGP has only visited Turkey since 2005) and Misano (the San Marino circuit has not been used for a Grand Prix since 1993) yet to conquer on the MotoGP map.

Last year The Doctor made the Transatlantic trip in good spirits following a scintillating victory on German soil, but his California dream turned into a nightmare as the scorching 56ºC track temperatures took a heavy toll and the Italian was forced to retire just four laps from the end with tyre and engine problems.

The 28 year-old Fiat Yamaha rider therefore heads to the West Coast of the States in determined mood - knowing that he cannot afford to let Stoner's World Championship advantage extend much further before the summer break, with only seven rounds remaining after this weekend.

Summing up his pre-U.S. Grand Prix thoughts Rossi commented: "Laguna was a great disappointment for me last year because I wasn't able to finish. I have never won there and after the disappointment of Germany I am determined to do so this time! I'm really glad we have such a short time between races because there's no time to dwell on what happened on Sunday, we just have to focus on Laguna Seca."

"With the way that our bike and tyres are working now, I think we have great potential there. It's a great place to race and I think if they've made the improvements to the track that we hoped for then it will be a good weekend. The championship is long and the important thing is to get as many points as possible from every race and arrive at the end still fighting."
