Hofmann ruled out of U.S. race with hand injury

Pramac d'Antin Ducati rider Alex Hofmann will miss the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix as a result of a hand injury, suffered in the opening free practice session at Laguna Seca.

‘The Hoff' rode just five laps of the American track before being taken out by Sylvain Guintoli when the Frenchman entered a corner too hot. Sliding into the gravel, Hofmann broke and cut his left hand when it got caught underneath his bike. The session was red flagged to allow an ambulance to enter the track, with the German taken to hospital in San Francisco for surgery.

The Ducati satellite team have had a tough time with hand injuries in recent weeks. Alex Barros opened up a cut on his left hand in practice for the last round in Sachsenring, whilst Hofmann himself damaged his right hand in a freak accident when a friend shut it in a car door just before his home race.
