Happy summer break for Tamada after Laguna result

Makoto Tamadas eighth place finish at Laguna Seca on Sunday was Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3s best result in the eleven rounds of the 2007 World Championship so far.

Makoto Tamadas eighth place finish at Laguna Seca on Sunday was Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3s best result in the eleven rounds of the 2007 World Championship so far, boosting the confidence of the Japanese rider and giving him something to smile about during the short summer break.

With Tamada taking eight points as he crossed the line less than a second behind seventh placed Anthony West (Kawasaki) at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, the Yamaha man improved on his best previous position of the season ninth in the rain at Le Mans and his strong performance came on the back of some decent runs in practice at the Californian venue.

The Japanese rider produced several competitive times to end the third free practice session as the eighth fastest rider and after qualifying eleventh on the grid his Dunlop tyres held up well in the race as he battled with the likes of West, Randy de Puniet, Alex Barros and Colin Edwards.

The step forward for Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3 prompted team manager Hervé Poncharal to comment: Without doubt this has been the best weekend of the year for us and it has come at the right time just before the summer break, which is a good boost for the rest of the year. I would like to congratulate Makoto and all the engineers for the hard work they have put in. We were pretty strong as our tyres worked well in the heat and it reflects the progress Dunlop and the team are making to finish in eighth position and battling for even better positions.

For Tamada himself, a double Grand Prix winner back in 2004, his second top ten finish of the year means he can look forward to the next race of the season at Brno in the Czech Republic on 19th August with extra self belief, after a start of the year which has seen Dunlop find it difficult to regularly compete with big guns Bridgestone and Michelin.

The 30 year-old commented: Finally, I have had a good result. We knew we could have one of our best races this year from the practices as we found a setting early on during the weekend and we also found tyres that we knew would work all race. It is so good to ride on a tyre that I know will allow me to put in competitive lap times for the entire race.

This has given me a lot of confidence to come back after the summer break. Thanks to everyone that has been putting in so much work. Now I cant wait for the next race.
