Guintoli to have arm surgery in Barcelona

Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3's Sylvain Guintoli is to have surgery in Barcelona on Thursday to relieve ‘arm-pump' symptoms he has been suffering since the second round of the 2007 MotoGP World Championship in Jerez.

The 25 year-old Frenchman has had a steady start to his MotoGP career this year, finishing all but one of the eleven races so far, and gaining 21 World Championship points along the way.

However, Guintoli has been riding in some discomfort and decided to make the most of the summer break by having surgery at the Dexeus Institute in Barcelona to improve his condition. The operation will be carried out by arm specialist Dr. Xavier Mir, and has been timed to allow the MotoGP rookie the opportunity to recover fully before the next race in the Czech Republic on 19th August.

Guintoli explained: "I decided to undergo surgery just a week and half before heading to California. I have had the problem since Jerez. Now's the best time to go under the knife as I can make the most of the break to full recover for Brno."

"I'll have to rest for two weeks, so I'll spend some time with my family in France, in Drôme and then we'll probably go on a trip for a week. We had planned to go to Dubai, but the temperature is around 45ºC now. Everything was sorted, flights, hotel, everything... But I freaked out when I saw the weather reports! It wouldn't be fun so I think we'll change the destination."
