Toseland to debut in MotoGP for Yamaha Tech 3 next season

James Toseland has today confirmed his arrival in MotoGP for the 2008 season, having put pen to paper on a contract with Yamaha Tech 3.

The Briton, currently leading the World Superbike championship, had been expected to hold out for a factory ride in MotoGP but appears to have been convinced by Herve Poncharal and Yamaha's plans for next season.

Toseland made an appearance at Donington Park for the British round of the MotoGP World Championship, taking in the atmosphere and holding talks with a number of teams. The 26 year old has had a long association with Honda in the Superbike championship, including an ill-fated three lap stint in last weekend's Suzuka Eight Hour race representing the Japanese factory, but now moves to the Yamaha satellite team who have been linked with a change in tyre manufacturer from their current Dunlop-shod machines.

"I am delighted to have secured a rider of James' calibre and am looking forward to working with him," says Team Principal Poncharal. "Procuring James is a major coup for Tech 3 Yamaha and for the MotoGP championship in extending our reach into Northern Europe. It is an exciting time for us all and I am certain that he will be an integral part of the team's future."
