Pramac d'Antin: Hofmann out, Silva in, Davies overlooked

With Alex Hofmann's absence from the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske Republiky finally confirmed, the Pramac d'Antin Ducati team have gone by the book to give allocated stand-in Ivan Silva his first MotoGP outing of the year.

With Alex Hofmann's absence from the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske Republiky finally confirmed, the Pramac d'Antin Ducati team have gone by the book to give allocated stand-in Ivan Silva his first MotoGP outing of the year.

The extent of Hofmann's hand injury meant that the German felt better equipped to make a return in Misano rather than take an unnecessary risk at Brno, and the team were left with a complicated choice as to whom to bring in as a replacement. Whilst Silva has made a number of appearances with the satellite outfit, including rides in 2006 when Hofmann was drafted in by the factory team at Assen, Donington and the previous race at Brno, Briton Chaz Davies was also in the running for a substitute spot after an impressive last minute draft at Laguna Seca. Davies was informed by email that his presence would not be required, meaning that he will instead take part in the latest AMA round at Virginia the same weekend.

Whilst Davies has missed out this time, his debut MotoGP appearance drew many plaudits and has put him in the shop window as a number of teams look for riders ahead of the 2008 season.

When not sitting in for the MotoGP team, Silva participates in Formula Xtreme races in the Spanish championship.

"I am happy to have the possibility to run in MotoGP again, especially this year where we have at our disposal the best tires and bike of this moment. During the entire season both Bridgestone and Ducati have shown to have very good qualities and competitiveness, so, for this reason, I'm honoured to ride the Desmosedici in Brno this weekend. I will do the best I can to contest a good race," comments the Spaniard.

"After the summer break we start again from Brno determined to recover points we lost during the two last races," explains Luis d'Antin. "Unfortunately Alex Hofmann will not be able to ride, so we decided to line up Ivan Silva. While Alex Barros has recovered from his recent hand injury and I'm sure he will do a good race this weekend. In the first part of this season, we weren't too lucky, both of our guys were innocent victims of bad crashes that compromised their performance, but in spite of this, we always showed ourselves to be competitive and determined to achieve our objectives. For this reason, I want to thank first and foremost Bridgestone and Ducati for the material that they have given us and to all of our sponsors."
