Nakano and new parts hold key to Konica Minolta Hondas MotoGP future

A frustrating 2007 season for Shinya Nakano is set to take an upturn as of this weekend, with the Konica Minolta Honda team receiving new parts from HRC. A bike which has remained unchanged since testing in November has left the Japanese rider with an uphill struggle for top ten finishes so far this year, but team manager Gianluca Montiron believes that now is the time for Nakano to shine.

We have all enjoyed the summer vacation and now we come back to MotoGP with our batteries fully re-charged! explains Montiron. Our important news is that we will receive some new parts that should change the character of our RC212V machine. We fully appreciate the effort, support and investment that HRC has made by supplying us with these new parts. We have received much support from HRC and Michelin and we trust that in the second part of the season we should have improved performance. I think that this is the moment that Shinya needs to show his true potential. We trust in Shinyas ability and the final races of the season in the next few months will determine our future in MotoGP.

Our weekend at Brno will be spent finding our way with these new technical parts. From the team side of things it will be very hard work, as we will need to concentrate a lot, as in the short practice time available we need to get the bike right for Shinya ready for the race.

Before the summer break we were making some steady improvements in a number of areas so thats a base from which we can move forward, adds an optimistic Nakano. Ive enjoyed some rest back home in Japan so now Im looking forward to the next race at the Czech Republic. Its a track I enjoy very much despite my previous results there not being my best. We should also have some new parts which makes the second part of the season very exciting for us.

With a two day test scheduled for after the race, the modified bike will be put up alongside the previous incarnation for further analysis, as Giulio Bernadelle from Konica Minolta Honda explains.

From Friday morning we will have some new parts for one of our RC212Vs. For back-to-back testing, one machine will have the new parts and we will check the difference between the standard bike and the updated machine. My expectation is to see some improvement as the Repsol Honda factory team has tested a lot with these new parts, so HRC know they give improved performance. I think these changes will give a better feeling to Shinya, so we hope that this will help his confidence with the front-end of the bike. Brno has changed a lot over the years. With the 990cc bikes, it wasnt so fast as most corners were 2nd or 3rd gear. With the 800cc bikes we will have to see, but I dont think it will be as fast as it was for the old 500cc two-strokes. Brno is a very nice track and has the sort of layout with which the rider can make the difference.
