Wild card ride for Spaniard Cardus

Spanish rider Ricky Cardus, the latest to emerge under the guidance of Dani Amatriain, will be one of a number of wild card participants in the forthcoming 125cc race at Brno.

Spanish rider Ricky Cardus, the latest to emerge under the guidance of Dani Amatriain, will be one of a number of wild card participants in the forthcoming 125cc race at Brno. The RACC Aprilia rider's name may be familiar to long-time Grand Prix fans, as he is the cousin of 1990 World Championship runner up Carlos Cardus.

The current CEV Spanish Championship participant will share a garage with 125 rookie Pol Espargaro, another promising Spanish talent who rides for Belson Campetella Aprilia as a regular rider. Cardus' appearance is something of a double reward for both his recent performances and the overcoming of two serious foot injuries over the course of the past six months.

"I am very grateful for this opportunity, given to me by RACC and Dani Amatriain, especially after such a rotten few months out injured," comments Cardus. "My goal is to improve in every practice, and get a place on the grid for the race. My name might raise eyebrows, but I will be on my own on track, because you don't win anything by just having a name."
