The first qualifying practice for more than a month for the 125cc competitors saw home rider Lukas Pesek take provisional pole at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky by a margin of just 0.082s this afternoon.

Valsir Seedorf Derbi rider Pesek did battle with World Championship leader Gabor Talmacsi throughout the session, the pair taking turns at the head of the timesheet – but despite a crash less than ten minutes before the end of the session the Czech rider recorded a time of 2'08.201s on his final lap to outdo his Hungarian rival by less than a tenth of a second.

Mattia Pasini of Polaris World has been in good form during qualifying throughout the 2007 season, only to be let down by the bad luck on race day which has hampered his progress – and this afternoon at Brno he ended up third fastest with a lap 0.178s off Pesek's best.

Talmacsi's Bancaja Aspar team-mate Hector Faubel completed the provisional front row, while Sandro Cortese (Emmi – Caffe Latte Aprilia), Tomoyoshi Koyama (Red Bull KTM), Sergio Gadea (Bancaja Aspar) and Randy Krummenacher (Red Bull KTM) will aim to improve on provisional second row grid positions tomorrow afternoon.

Belson Campatella Aprilia's Pol Espargaro and Simone Corsi (Skilled Racing Team) rounded off the top ten.
