Poncharal comments on Toseland, Yamaha and 2008

Announcing James Toseland as a Tech 3 rider for 2008 shortly after the last round at Laguna Seca, Herve Poncharal is looking to the future with particularly high hopes for his Yamaha satellite team.

Announcing James Toseland as a Tech 3 rider for 2008 shortly after the last round at Laguna Seca, Herve Poncharal is looking to the future with particularly high hopes for his Yamaha satellite team. Speaking to motogp.com yesterday, the Frenchman commented on the signing of the 2004 World Superbike title winner and current championship leader, the expected split with Dunlop and who will accompany the Briton in Tech 3.

"Signing Toseland is very good news for both us and MotoGP. I have been talking to James for a long time; I raced with his manager a long, long time ago and I am really looking forward to us working and doing well together," explained Poncharal.

"We've always had good support from Yamaha. They are a company who treat factory and satellite teams at almost the same level. In the last few years we have been working on a project to develop the Dunlop brand, which hasn't been the best thing for results but was exciting from a technical viewpoint.

"Yamaha Japan are looking forward to working with James, with top, top support. There will effectively be four factory Yamaha riders next year."

Current riders Sylvain Guintoli and Makoto Tamada will not be team-mates within Tech 3 next year but, as Poncharal hinted, a good performance before the end of the year would increase the possibility of one of them maintaining their spot.

"Our two riders have priority for the final 50% of the 2008 lineup. In the last races of this season they will be showing us what they can offer, which should be exciting and fun to watch."
