The reigning World Champion and current 250cc general standings leader Jorge Lorenzo smashed his own two year old pole position record at Brno this afternoon as he earned top spot on the grid for Sunday's quarter litre class contest at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky.

The 250 riders were restricted by rain in yesterday's first qualifying practice with Lorenzo's good friend Alex Debon on provisional pole having undertaken just four laps of the Czech circuit.

But there were no such problems in today's session with Fortuna Aprilia's Lorenzo earning his seventh pole position of the season as he took 0.893s off his circuit best lap from 2005, and finished the session 0.658s ahead of Debon, who was second.

The Spanish Aprilia pair are joined on the front row by Lorenzo's two main title rivals Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot) and Alex De Angelis (Master Mapfre Aspar).

Another Spaniard on Aprilia machinery, Hector Barbera (Team Toth), will get away from the grid in fifth, followed by Yuki Takahashi (Kopron Team Scot) and Repsol Honda colleagues Julian Simon and Shuhei Aoyma.

Shuhei's brother Hiroshi qualified tenth, just behind fellow Red Bull KTM rider Mika Kallio.
