Melandri receives Brno K.O.?Marco Melandri is facing an uphill struggle to be fit for tomorrows race at Brno, having missed the last two free practice sessions in the Czech Republic. The Italian had been expected to make a return this morning after skipping yesterday afternoons outing with a neck injury, but his condition had not improved significantly enough for him to get back onboard the Honda RC212V.

The Italian has been receiving full massage treatment whilst the other riders have been undertaking laps of the Brno circuit.

Dr. Claudio Costa, the Clinica Mobile chief aiming to help get Melandri in condition to race, spoke to motogp.com after the morning session to explain the situation in which his notoriously tough compatriot finds himself.

Melandri felt a hard pain on the neck yesterday morning during FP1. He also lost some power on his left shoulder and arm because of this. We checked and found that he is suffering from an exposed discal hernia between cervical discs. It will be quite difficult for Melandri to ride tomorrow since the situation is quite serious; we´ll do our best to put the rider in condition to ride, but it will be a matter of his own will and motivations.

There is no doubt that the recent crash in Laguna Seca, like previous ones, has contributed to this situation. Cervical discs are a sensitive part and it doesn´t make much difference if you are a professional rider or not, that part is already under stress for the bare fact that it supports the head. Everybody is suffering from some kind of stress in that area, but obviously the crashes and the kind of posture a rider has to keep doesnt make things easier.
