After his impressive form on Friday at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky, Ducati Marlboro's World Championship leader Casey Stoner was well in control on Saturday morning at Brno as he topped the timesheets by more than half a second over his nearest rival in the session, John Hopkins (Rizla Suzuki).

The 21 year old Aussie demonstrated great race pace yesterday and was only knocked off his perch at the head of the Friday afternoon timesheet by Sylvain Guintoli on qualifying tyres, but in this third free practice session Stoner was 1.458s ahead of seventh placed Guintoli.

Stoner went round in 1'58.002s on the 19th of his 21 laps to put him 0.651s ahead of Hopkins at the end of the run-out, which took place under clear blue skies with the track drying out following overnight rain at the historic Czech venue.

Such was his speed only two riders were able to keep within a second of the rampant Stoner, with Kawasaki's Frenchman Randy de Puniet lapping 0.937s behind the Ducati hotshot, while Fiat Yamaha's Colin Edwards was 1.229s down in fourth place.

Stoner's team-mate Loris Capirossi lapped fifth fastest, just in front of Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen, Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3's Guintoli and Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa. Pedrosa's Honda colleague, World Champion Nicky Hayden, was ninth in the session, ahead of Guintoli's team-mate Makoto Tamada - who rounded off the top ten.

Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was down in 12th position, almost two seconds slower than title rival Stoner, while Honda Gresini's Marco Melandri was again absent as he received further treatment at Clinica Mobile following the severe neck pain which prevented him from taking part yesterday afternoon.
