With the majority of the MotoGP grid still present at Brno following the Czech round of the World Championship, the timesheets had a familiar look about them after the first morning of testing on Monday with Ducati Marlboros Casey Stoner lapping fastest.

The Australian rider led the way with a lap in the low 157.0s region, just ahead of Rizla Suzukis John Hopkins and Repsol Hondas Dani Pedrosa.

Valentino Rossi was one of the last riders to appear out on track as he started tests on a new engine for his Fiat Yamaha M1.

With Bridgestone currently enjoying a spell of dominance in MotoGP, the Michelin equipped teams are focussing on some intense tyre tests to provide their French suppliers with the data they need to improve their competitiveness.

Speaking on Sunday night about the objectives for the two days of testing from a Michelin perspective, the companys director of motorcycle racing Jean-Philippe Weber commented: ´Based on what we experienced today we now have to look towards our tests here over the next two days. We have new constructions and new compounds to test and we will be working on long runs to see how the tyre performance changes lap by lap.

We already tested these new tyres with our own test riders, now we need to confirm their performance. If our top riders like the tyres we will keep going in that direction, which will be a new generation of tyres. With the 800cc you have to maintain side grip, you have to make the rider confident at maximum angle so he can open the throttle very early in the corner. That way you exit the corner much better and you get more top speed, thats the philosophy we have to follow.´

Meanwhile, 250cc riders Alvaro Bautista (Master Mapfre Aspar) and Thomas Luthi (Emmi Caffe Latte Aprilia) have been testing the new Aprilia model used by Alex Debon this weekend.
