LCR Honda have reached an agreement with 26 year-old French rider Randy de Puniet to race in the 2008 and 2009 MotoGP World Championships, with Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello and the French rider concluding the deal today.

The current Kawasaki rider has a successful history with Cecchinello, having ridden for him in the 2003 and 2004 seasons onboard a factory 250cc Aprilia, and returns to the team for what will be his third and fourth seasons in MotoGP.

"We are very happy to work with Randy again," explains his future Team Manager. "Our past collaboration gave the team some impressive results, and thanks to Honda, our technical partners and our sponsors' support, Randy will be able to demonstrate his huge potential once again in the most prestigious and competitive class in the world in 2008."

De Puniet has had a mixed season this year, with highlights including a first front row at Catalunya, although a nasty knee injury and a number of crashes have hindered his progress.

Kawasaki had decided not to take up the option in De Puniet's contract, which expired on June 30th, although the rider was later offered a further deal with Team Green. Current Kawasaki rider Anthony West is now the favourite to keep his seat onboard the 800cc Ninja ZX-RR and partner newcomer John Hopkins, having impressed since his first race as a stand-in at Donington Park.
