This weekends Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini is considered the home race for 250cc rider Andrea Dovizioso and his Kopron Team Scot team.

The 21 year-old Italian currently sits second in the quarter litre class general standings, 30 points behind defending World Champion and current category leader Jorge Lorenzo, following a solid second place finish at Brno in the last race less than two weeks ago.

With only six rounds to go Dovizioso has his work cut out to catch the dominant Lorenzo in the championship and will also face stiff competition this weekend from Alex de Angelis - at what is of course also the home Grand Prix for the Master Mapfre Aspar rider from San Marino.

The track will be completely new to all the competitors having returned to the calendar after a 14 year absence, with a new surface and a new clockwise riding direction.

Dovizioso is hugely popular in his native Italy and has a massive fan club, many of whom will be present at Misano to give him as much support as possible in what could be an absolutely crucial race in terms of the destiny of the 2007 championship.

This track is new for all the riders, comments the young title fighter. Ive only been round here in a car and the track seemed quite slow to me. We are still fighting for the title, after a good performance in Brno that kept us in touch in the standings, so well do our best to make up the gap in points. This is my home race and to know there will be so many of my fans, relatives and friends here gives me extra motivation. I want to give them the victory.
