The opening action of the Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini weekend saw the 125cc riders participate in an extended first free practice session in wet conditions at Misano, with Bancaja Aspar's Gabor Talmacsi leading the pack.

The World Championship returns to the Italian circuit this weekend after a 14 year absence, with the riders being given an extra 15 minutes in this first outing of the day to acquaint themselves with the track.

Currently second in the general standings, Talmacsi is one of the older competitors in the 125cc category at 26, but he had not even reached his teenage years at the time of the last San Marino Grand Prix.

The Hungarian was the quickest to get to grips with what is essentially a new track for the single cylinder grid, lapping in 1'55.450s to put him 0.432s ahead of second fastest participant Mattia Pasini of Polaris World in the rain on the Adriatic coast.

Third fastest was Kopron Team Scot's Dino Lombardi, while Tomoyoshi Koyama (Red Bull KTM) and Pol Espargaro (Belson Campetella) completed the top five.

Simone Corsi (Skilled Racing Team), Mike di Meglio (Kopron Team Scot), Lukas Pesek (Valsir Seedorf Derbi), Stefan Bradl (Blusens Aprilia) and Sergio Gadea (Bancaja Aspar) completed the top ten, while championship leader Hector Faubel (also Bancaja Aspar) was down in 18th position.
