- The top five places on the grid have been taken by five different manufacturers.

- Casey Stoner is the first rider since Valentino Rossi in 2003/2004 to start from pole at four successive MotoGP races.

- Stoner will be aiming to become only the second rider since the current MotoGP formula was introduced in 2002 to win three successive races.

- Valentino Rossi starts from the front row of the grid for the first time since the British GP at Donington.

- Valentino Rossi has won on each of the six occasions he has raced a four-stroke MotoGP machine in Italy all at the Mugello circuit.

- Nicky Hayden has qualified on the front row for the second successive race, having not been on the front row at the first eleven races of the year.

- Here at Misano, Loris Capirossi will become just the sixth rider to reach the milestone of 150 starts in the premier-class.

- Valentino Rossi, Loris Capirossi or Marco Melandri could score the 200th premier-class victory for Italy.
