Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen may be starting today's Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini eighth on the grid but the Australian rider was the quickest around the Italian track of Misano this morning as the MotoGP competitors warmed up in the Sunday morning sunshine.

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa was second on the timesheet, ahead of Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet, Vermeulen's team-mate John Hopkins and Ducati Marlboro's Casey Stoner who starts on pole in this afternoon's race.

Second on the grid is Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi who was sixth quickest in the warm-up, in front of World Champion Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda), Honda LCR's Spanish veteran Carlos Checa, Kawasaki's Anthony West and Honda Gresini's Marco Melandri. West suffered a slight crash but was seen walking away apparently unaffected.

The quarter litre class session saw pole man, World Champion and category leader Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) out in front, ahead of Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot) - who is just behind the Spaniard in the standings and starts the Misano race just behind him on the grid.

Mika Kallio is fifth on the grid but was third in the warm-up, while his Red Bull KTM colleague Hiroshi Aoyama was fourth and Marco Simoncelli of Metis Gilera was fifth.

In the 125cc warm-up it was Skilled Racing Team's Simone Corsi - fifth on the grid for today's single cylinder contest – who lapped fastest in this morning's run-out. He went round 0.188s quicker than another rider on home soil, Polaris World's Mattia Pasini, with the Italian pair desperate for glory once the real action gets underway later this morning.

Completing the top five were Bancaja Aspar's Hector Faubel, Repsol Honda's Esteve Rabat and Faubel's team-mate Gabor Talmacsi, whilst pole setter Lukas Pesek of Valsir Seedorf Derbi was ninth fastest.
