Following the latest round of the 2007 World Championship at the Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, the majority of the MotoGP grid stayed on at Misano for a crucial day of testing on Monday, ahead of the final five races of the season.

Runaway MotoGP standings leader Casey Stoner was the fastest participant in the session, as the teams worked on improving their 800cc prototypes - with their sights already set on key developments they can make for the 2008 season.

Reflecting on yet another positive day's work, Ducati Marlboro's Stoner said: "We are very happy with today. We had a few tyres to test, very similar to those we had tested after the race at Brno. We have once again found some very positive points which could give us a step forward at future races. Also, we tried another step with the chassis, again similar to what we did at Brno, just to confirm things, and once again we did consistently very fast times. It has been a very positive test for us, though also a quite a long and hot day."

Stoner may have stolen reigning World Champion Nicky Hayden's thunder this year in The Kentucky Kid's unsuccessful title defence season, but no-one can ever accuse the American of living on the glory of 2006 and that was again the case in this test outing.

Hayden completed an astonishing 134 laps of the Misano track - covering approximately 550 km or five times the Grand Prix distance - before concluding the test second on the unofficial timesheet, just over one tenth slower than Stoner.

Like Hayden, former World Champion Valentino Rossi is hoping for better fortunes next year and he continued his work on the new engine he tested at Brno which failed on him in Sunday's race.
