Currently holding a comfortable advantage of 54 points in the 250cc class, Jorge Lorenzo has the upper hand as he looks to retain his quarter litre crown. Although Andrea Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis are tough rivals for any aspiring champion, the confident Spaniard currently sees potential injuries as more of a worry than any of his foes.

"My father always used to say to me that one should leave a small margin for error, because that way you can avoid crashes. This is what I have tried to do, because injuries are my main concern," noted Lorenzo after his eighth victory of the season at Misano.

The Aprilia factory rider moves up to MotoGP next year, but will be taking things slowly as he gets to grips with a new machine and a new challenge. "The first two years are for learning," he explained. "Neither the team, nor the factory, nor myself are going to demand any particular results at the moment, so I'm just going to enjoy the experience."

Lorenzo has already had his first contact with an 800cc Yamaha in Almeria, where he rode a handful of testing laps last month. The next date on the MotoGP calendar is a visit to Portugal, the only track where the current 250cc World Champion has not stepped onto the podium in his current category.
