British rider Chaz Davies will have another chance to ride the Ducati Desmosedici next week, when he follows up his short-notice appearance at Laguna Seca with two days of testing at Mugello.

Set to take to the track alongside regular Ducati test rider Vittoriano Guareschi, Davies will undertake laps of the Italian circuit on the 11th and 12th of this month. The decision to further assess the 20 year-old came at the request of Ducati Project Manager Livio Suppo, as Davies explained to motogp.com on Friday.

The opportunity to have another go with the GP7 has been in the air ever since the race at Laguna Seca, said the current AMA rider who stepped in for Alex Hofmann at the U.S. round of the MotoGP World Championship. There was talk of Brno -which came very close to happening- and then I also had a strong chance of riding at Misano if Alex wasnt ready to return, which Ducati were very interested in. After that, Livio Suppo just said lets see about a test at Mugello.

The purpose of the test will be to assess rider ability rather than to tryout new parts. Laguna is Laguna; its not really a Grand Prix-style track, so Livio wants to see how I do on what Ducati regard as a real circuit. I improved consistently in America, so they just want to see what I can do, continued Davies, whos turn at Mugello will be looked over by an old friend currently flying high in MotoGP

Casey Stoner is coming along to watch. I think that he probably had an influence in the decision to ask me back, which is flattering. Davies and the current MotoGP World Championship leader began their careers together, and have remained close pals throughout the numerous twists and turns in the various classes.

Coincidentally, one of the only seats currently not set for 2008 is that of the dAntin Ducati satellite team, with the chance for the former 250cc rider to put himself in the shop window.

Things seem fairly full at the moment, with the exception of dAntin. Well just see how I get on next week.

One option that may be feasible is a role as a test rider, alongside AMA duties in America. This would, however, only be possible under special circumstances.

If I was riding for a factory team in AMA and could test MotoGP bikes then of course I would, noted Davies. A non factory ride would definitely be a lot more feasible for a test role, in terms of putting together a contract.

This will be Davies first test with a MotoGP bike, although he came close last year when poised for a tryout with the fledgling Ilmor GP project. Damage to the bike in a crash by Jeremy McWilliams meant that the Welshman was unable to get his turn to debut on an 800cc machine.
