Andrea Dovizioso today announced that he would be making the move up to MotoGP next season, and the project will possibly supported by Gianluca Montiron's JiR structure which currently runs Konica Minolta Honda in the World Championship.

The 250cc title contender, who took pole for the bwin.com Grande Premio de Portugal with a new record time this afternoon, spoke to motogp.com confirming his switch to the premier class.

"We have planned to step up to MotoGP next year with my current team and Honda backing. We still have a few details to work out, but the project will soon be in motion," explained Dovizioso.

When later quizzed as to whether JiR would be involved, the Italian answered in the affirmative.

Whilst Montiron admitted that there had been discussions about running Dovizioso in MotoGP, he was keen to emphasise that it was not yet a done deal. Asked about his countryman's announcement, the Konica Minolta Honda boss replied: "I read something about it having been confirmed, but we are still in negotiations about next year. We haven't completed anything yet, but we have certainly spoken about the possibility."
