Pasini heading for 250cc class next year

Polaris World's Mattia Pasini will move up into the quarter litre World Championship next season, following the confirmation that his team have an official Aprilia RSA 250 bike lined up for the Italian rider.

Polaris World's Mattia Pasini will move up into the quarter litre World Championship next season, following the confirmation that his team have an official Aprilia RSA 250 bike lined up for the Italian rider.

"In 2008 will have a presence in both the 125cc and 250cc categories," confirmed a spokesman for Polaris World. "In terms of 250cc things are already finalized and we will be providing Mattia Pasini with an official Aprilia. I think with Mattia's qualities and the technical level which the team will be at we should have genuine hopes of winning races."

"In the 125cc class we will see what happens in the coming races before making any concrete decisions and confirming the set-up for 2008, but we'll definitely be running in both categories next year."

Pasini is currently participating in his fourth season in the single cylinder World Championship and in total has seven victories and 16 podium finishes to his name.

Rookie of the year in 2004, Pasini has proved himself to be one of the quickest riders in the class. With seven pole positions to his name in 2007 he would be far higher in the general standings had he not had such bad luck with technical problems and crashes this season.
