Currently leading the All Japan Superbike Championship, 36-year-old Yanagawa also has some personal Twin Ring demons to exorcise as he crashed out and broke his pelvis on lap six of the Pacific Grand Prix in 2002, riding the Kawasaki 990cc ZX-RR on its debut MotoGP outing.

Last year at the Japanese circuit Kawasaki had four riders participating in the premier class race, none of whom crossed the finishing line.

Nonetheless, Yanagawa is delighted with the chance to ride the Ninja ZX-RR on the biggest stage of all and commented: Im really happy to have this opportunity of a MotoGP ride. I had a big crash in 2002 at Motegi so this is like a revenge race for me!
