World Champion Jorge Lorenzo was the fastest 250cc rider in the Friday morning quarter litre class free practice run out at the A-Style Grand Prix of Japan, lapping 0.343s quicker than arch rival Hector Barbera at Motegi.

The Spanish Aprilia pair set the pace in blistering heat at the Twin Ring circuit, Lorenzo putting in his best time of 1'52.835s on the last of 23 laps – as the only rider to go under the 1'53 mark.

Behind Fortuna Aprilia's Lorenzo and his ex team-mate Barbera - who moved to Team Toth at the start of this season – the 2005 and 2006 Japanese Grand Prix winner Hiroshi Aoyama (Red Bull KTM) was third quickest.

Current World Championship runner-up Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot) was fourth, just ahead of Mika Kallio (Red Bull KTM).

Usual suspects Julian Simon (Repsol Honda), Alvaro Bautista (Master - Mapfre Aspar), Thomas Lühti (Emmi Caffe Latte), Alex De Angelis (Master - Mapfre Aspar) and Shuhei Aoyama (Repsol Honda) were all in the top ten.
