The high temperatures yesterday extended to the track at Motegi, as two of the more hot-headed riders clashed in the afternoon practice session. Casey Stoner lashed out at LCR Honda rider Carlos Checa at the start of the run-out when he adjudged the Spaniard to have baulked him. Angry gestures between the two followed, with Stoner particularly damning in his words for the veteran afterwards.

"Concerning the incident with Casey Stoner that everyone saw on TV I was going slow, outside the line, so I don't understand why he was upset. I just hope Casey can calm down and focus on the championship, this is what he should do," answered Checa when questioned about the coming together.

Stoner was not fined for the incident, but was talked to by Race Direction in an effort to avoid a repeat of his actions. Checa has previously been involved in an incident which saw John Hopkins fined at Laguna Seca for lashing out, and has tangled with Stoner both earlier this season and at the start of the latter's rookie season, when he made a dig at the Australian coming straight up to the Honda team with Michelin tyres for which Checa ironically rides this year.
