Pedrosa maintains momentum, Rossi bounces back

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa stayed on the pace this morning at the A-Style Grand Prix of Japan as he again lapped quickest in the early Saturday session, whilst Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi put his Friday problems behind him as he went round second quickest at Motegi.

Pedrosa put in a best time of 1´47.155 in the last few minutes to knock team-mate Nicky Hayden off the top of the timesheets - and then with time just about to run out Rossi romped round on a lap just 0.283s down on the Spaniard's to end up second fastest at the end of the hour long session.

It was a reassuring site for Rossi fans who had seen him return to the pits in the Friday afternoon session trailed by a cloud of smoke which saw him end the day 14th overall due to an engine problem.

Hayden stayed in third position, just ahead of World Championship leader Casey Stoner, who was fourth with a best lap nearly half a second down on Pedrosa's.

Kawasaki's Randy De Puniet was fifth, followed by John Hopkins (Rizla Suzuki) and Marco Melandri (Honda Gresini).

Japanese pair Makoto Tamada (Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3) and Kousuke Akiyoshi (Rizla Suzuki MotoGP) were notably eighth and ninth, while Sylvain Guintoli (Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3) rounded off the top ten.
