Davies still in the frame for dAntin stand-in spot

The name most frequently linked with the now-vacant second rider spot at Pramac dAntin for the remaining three races of the season, Chaz Davies, could yet make another appearance on a Ducati after his impressive ride at Laguna Seca in July.

The name most frequently linked with the now-vacant second rider spot at Pramac dAntin for the remaining three races of the season, Chaz Davies, could yet make another appearance on a Ducati after his impressive ride at Laguna Seca in July.

The Briton has been a busy man in recent weeks, testing the Desmosedici GP7 in a run-out at Mugello and concluding the AMA season in America. Both events were intrinsically linked, as a crash in Italy became infected and sent Davies on another trip, this time to Monterrey hospital to clean out the wound.

Ultimately, another race standing in for departed dAntin rider Alex Hofmann was felt to be a little bit too premature for the former 250cc rider in his delicate condition, as Davies explained on his website.

I was supposed to do the last round of MotoGP at Motegi but felt that, due to the arm infection, I still wasnt up to shape to take the strains that a MotoGP weekend puts on the body. I figured that there was more chance of me doing myself down and decided it would be better to get myself fully recovered.

Shinichi Itoh eventually took the ride in Japan, but Davies still remains the favourite to fill in at Phillip Island, Sepang and Valencia.

Riding in the last three GPs of this year is still a possibility. When Livio Suppo from Ducati and Luis dAntin return from Japan I will be speaking to them to hopefully find out what the situation is, he continued.

All in all 2007 has been a good year for me. I have had a lot of fun in America and the totally unexpected Laguna MotoGP ride seems to have opened up new doors for me. Im still very much undecided on my plans for next year. Obviously MotoGP is where I want to be but I think that a full time ride may be a long shot at this stage, concluded Davies, who believes that a Ducati-Bridgestone test rider role for 2008 is a definite possibility that merits serious consideration.
