Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3 took their best result of the season at Motegi, courtesy of an inspired ride by departing rider Sylvain Guintoli. The Frenchman, who has also led a race this year at Le Mans, clocked fastest lap after fastest lap of the Japanese circuit, eventually coming up short only to Toni Elias as the Gresini Honda rider kept him off the podium.

The result was an important one for Dunlop, looking to maintain their presence on the MotoGP grid next year should the regulations remain similar to the current setup. Jeremy Ferguson from the manufacturer hailed Guintoli's performance, and also passed comment on last week's control tyre announcement.

"Sylvain rode brilliantly and the conditions were the same for everybody; they worked out fantastically well for us. It was a shame not to take that final step and get onto the podium, but it was ok. After all the ‘problems' of this weekend, it shows what racing can deliver," explained Ferguson.

"We're a long way from even discussing if Dunlop could supply all teams with a control tyre. Our position on control tyres is well known; we'll see first if this proposal is accepted, and then afterwards the terms, conditions or whatever that people want to put in for deciding it. We believe that the more different competitors in terms of tyres, bikes and riders, the better."
