Vermeulen makes cross-Australia meet and greet tour

Although he could be forgiven for taking things easy after a hefty schedule of MotoGP races in recent weeks, Rizla Suzukis Chris Vermeulen is using his two week break to make a solo tour of his homeland in the build-up to the GMC Australian Grand Prix.

Dubbed the ´Island Assault Tour´, Vermeulens cross-country trip will see him travelling from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland to the Phillip Island circuit and back in a specially designed interactive truck on a 7000km excursion.

The most recent stop on the whirlwind tour of Australia was Springwood Suzuki in Brisbane last Saturday. Around a thousand fans turned out to meet the MotoGP rider over the two hour duration of his visit, leaving Vermeulen in awe of their dedication.

´So many people are on their way to the Island and a lot of them thanked me for coming out and meeting the fans. I think I should be thanking them. Just great! I can´t wait to get to Sydney now, said the Australian star.

The next date on the Island Assault Tour is a visit to Action Motorcycles in Paramatta, Sydney on Wednesday, followed by a weekend residency at the Australian Motorcycle Expo in Melbourne. After that, its off to Phillip Island, where Vermeulen will be out for a repeat of his podium form from last year.
