With one of the strongest home lineups in recent years, the GMC Australian Grand Prix is set to be a treat for fans Down Under as they cheer on some of the local favourites at Phillip Island. Alongside MotoGP stars Casey Stoner, Chris Vermeulen and Anthony West, two more home riders will be on track: brothers Blake and Jackson Leigh-Smith in the 125cc class.

Blake Leigh Smith has already competed at Phillip Island in the World Championship, making a stand-in appearance for KTM at last years race. Between then and now, the youngster has been showcasing his talents on the European circuit.

Ive been riding in the IDM and various European championships this year; Ive done this with one single mechanic all season, and Ill be using the same bike that Ive been on in Europe for the Grand Prix in Australia, explains the older of the two brothers. I will see how my times compare in practice but I would like to beat my previous best finish of 22nd. For the future, I would like to go to the World Championship, but if not then I will be racing in the IDM Championship again next year.

Younger brother Jackson makes his World Championship debut at the GMC Australian Grand Prix, and has been honing his skills at home in the national championships.

The bike I will be using is the same one as I have used in the Australian championships all year, says Jackson, who will also ride under the Leigh-Smith banner at Phillip Island. All this season I have been competing only in Australia, racing in the Nationals and the usual club races. For the race I am keen on learning as much as I can from these guys over the weekend and in the race I hope I can have a battle with some of the riders. For the future? I am still not sure but I would love to compete in some European races next year.

The duo will be on track together for the first time at a World Championship event on the opening Friday morning practice session at Phillip Island.
