Lorenzo gets second shot at sealing title in Australia

Although his first match ball to retain the 250cc World Title in Japan passed him by, Jorge Lorenzo is still in a position to clinch the 2007 crown in Australia next weekend.

Although his first match ball to retain the 250cc World Title in Japan passed him by, Jorge Lorenzo is still in a position to clinch the 2007 crown in Australia next weekend.

If the stars are aligned correctly for the Spaniard, he could extend his current 36 point gap to an unreachable advantage over Andrea Dovizioso, the only rider in with a realistic chance of catching the factory Aprilia man. Alex de Angelis is also a key player in the sums, but lies a further 18 points behind Lorenzo.

A victory for the reigning World Champion, coupled with Andrea Dovizioso finishing outside the top four, would see the title heading to Spain for the second consecutive year.

De Angelis becomes involved if Lorenzo finishes second. If the San Marino native doesnt win in Australia, and Dovizioso finishes no higher than tenth, then the second step on the rostrum will be good enough for a Lorenzo title triumph.

Third place for Lorenzo will also give him the 2007 World Championship, provided that De Angelis does not win and Dovizioso finishes no higher than fourteenth.
