40 At the Japanese GP forty year-old Shinichi Itoh finished 15th, more than 19 years after making his Grand prix debut in Japan in 1988. This made Itoh the oldest rider to score points in the premier class since Swiss rider Bruno Kneubühler finished 14th at the Swedish GP in 1989 at the age of forty three.

12 Aprilia have already had twelve wins in the 125cc class already this year, matching their best ever haul of wins which they achieved last year. 11 The Japanese Grand Prix was the eleventh time this year that three different manufacturers were represented on the MotoGP podium.

8 Casey Stoner has eight victories in the four-stroke MotoGP class; the same as Sete Gibernau. Only Valentino Rossi has had more victories in the MotoGP era.

6 Ducati need to score just six points in Australia to become the first European manufacturer to win the premier class constructors title since MV Agusta in 1973.

5 Valentino Rossi has won five times in the premier class at Phillip Island. If he takes the victory there this year it will become the second circuit at which he will have taken six premier class victories, the other being Mugello.
