Hiroshi Aoyama returns to action this weekend eager to put his crash at Motegi behind him. The Japanese rider was battling for victory when he dropped out of the race in the final stages, denying him the chance of a third consecutive win at his home circuit.

The KTM man was on hand yesterday at the Maru Koala and Fauna park, and got the chance to get up close with the various animals near the Phillip Island circuit before todays free practice sessions.

Speaking to motogp.com at the event, Aoyama wished to pay tribute to the recently deceased Norick Abe, one of Japans greatest motorcycling talents who lost his life last weekend in a traffic accident.

For all the riders of my generation he was an example to follow, and represented what we were aiming to succeed. The news of his death was a big surprise for me, a real shock, explained the saddened 250cc rider.
