World Championship leader Gabor Talmacsi (Bancaja Aspar) took the 125cc provisional pole at Phillip Island on Friday ahead of his Bancaja Aspar team-mate and title rival Hector Faubel in second and Tomoyoshi Koyama (Red Bull KTM) in third, at the GMC Australian Grand Prix.

Although the Hungarian rider suffered a crash at the end of the qualifying session he walked away unhurt and had already earned provisional pole with a lap of 1'39.134s, which put him just 0.044s ahead of Faubel and 0.315s in front of Koyama. Talmacsi will look to secure his fifth pole of the year on Saturday as he attempts to increased his general standings lead of nine points this weekend.

The provisional front row of the grid is completed by Polaris World's Mattia Pasini, who with a lap time of 1'39.564s was 0.430s behind pace setting Talmacsi.

On the provisional second row are Sergio Gadea (Bancaja Aspar), Lukas Pesek (Valsir Seedorf Derbi), Raffaele de Rosa (Multimedia Racing) and Lorenzo Zanetti (Team Sicilia).

The third row provisionally includes Michael Ranseder (Ajo Motorsport) Simone Corsi (Skilled Racing Team), Mike di Meglio (Kopron Team Scot) and Blusens Aprilia rider Pablo Nieto, while Brit Bradley Smith (Repsol Honda) went round 13th fastest.
