The chance to secure his second consecutive 250cc World Championship this weekend hanging in the balance, Jorge Lorenzo has the best chance possible of upholding his side of the bargain as he starts from pole in Australia. The Spaniard has won every race for which he has taken the top spot in qualifying, and a ninth victory of the year would make things all the more difficult for rival Andrea Dovizioso to overcome the gap between the two.

Speaking at the post-qualifying press conference, Lorenzo who lies joint second on the all-time 250cc pole position table alongside Loris Capirossi- commented on his 23rd career pole and his chances of lifting the title trophy tomorrow afternoon.

Tomorrow it will not be easy to win the title, but the race is certainly possible, commented the 20 year old. The wind is making things difficult here, and every lap you have a chance of crashing, but we are prepared to fight.
