Rossi confident of second place confirmation

Left in the unique situation of having to battle for second place in the MotoGP World Championship this season, Valentino Rossi remains confident of keeping rival Dani Pedrosa at bay with results in the final two races of 2007.

The Italian, third at Phillip Island to continue his uninterrupted run of podium finishes in Australian MotoGP races, was quizzed about whether he feared a final push from the Spaniard at Malaysia and Valencia, but appeared content with the current 29 point gap between himself and the Honda man.

"I believe that it will be enough for second. Usually myself and Dani finish close together in races, so the points difference is a good margin to have. We think that we will reach the end of the season with second place confirmed," said Rossi in the post race press conference.

Reasonably pleased with the performance of his Yamaha this afternoon, the factory rider also expressed what he believes will be the key to Michelin improvement on the tyre front both this year and next.

"The Michelin trademark always used to be that their tyres lasted for a long time, but with the 800cc they aren't working well for the last part of a race. We need to talk more with Michelin about this," stated the five-time MotoGP World Champion.
