Suzuki's Denning confirms Spies Sepang test

AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies will be given the chance to ride the Suzuki GSV-R800 for the first time in just a few days time, in a special test opportunity given to him by the Japanese factory.

AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies will be given the chance to ride the Suzuki GSV-R800 for the first time in just a few days time, in a special test opportunity given to him by the Japanese factory.

On the Monday following the Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix Spies will put on his leathers and try his hand on the 800cc machine, and Paul Denning spoke in the pre-event press conference about the decision to give the American a trial run on this year's model used by John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen.

"It is Ben's first time riding at Sepang, and also his first time with the GSV-R800. It's difficult to say whether he will be here in MotoGP eventually, but he wants to give it a go and he seems to have got over his fear of flying to come over to Malaysia," said the Rizla Suzuki Team Manager. "I think Suzuki like to bring through their own riders, as they did with Kevin Schwantz."

Wild card rider Nobuatsu Aoki was present at the circuit today, as was the new 2008 Suzuki bike that he will be giving a race debut to this weekend. The Japanese rider spoke to motogp.com this afternoon to explain some of the changes made to the base prototype, among them a new tail design and a more open exhaust system.
