Although he arrives at Malaysia on the back of a three race run without scoring points, Thai rider Ratthapark Wilairot is optimistic about the chance to further improve his championship position with a strong result at what is effectively his home Grand Prix.

The Thai Honda PTT SAG man, the first rider from his country to participate in the World Championship, has previous experience of the Sepang circuit and will be boosted by the presence of family members in attendance for his 250cc run out.

I have raced here before, in the Asian Motorcycle Series on a 125cc a long time ago. I want to get a good result here, said Wilairot, who most recently took 19th at Phillip Island after hurting his hand in a qualifying crash.

My mother, father and sister will be here on Saturday, and also people from Honda Thailand to support me, Wilairot told motogp.com
