Ducati Marlboro's Casey Stoner was back in control on Saturday morning at the Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix as he cut 0.637s from his best Friday time to top the FP3 timesheets by 0.243s ahead of Randy de Puniet (Kawasaki Racing).

The new World Champion showed great pace to lead the way in the early run-out at Sepang in typically hot and humid conditions, under cloudy skies but with a dry track surface allowing all the riders to improve on their opening day times – ahead of qualifying this afternoon.

John Hopkins (Rizla Suzuki), Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda) and Anthony West (Kawasaki Racing) were all in the top five, while Toni Elias (Honda Gresini) was sixth and a vast improvement by Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha) on his Friday time – with well over two seconds made up – saw him lap seventh fastest.

Rossi's compatriot Marco Melandri (Honda Gresini) along with Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) and Sylvain Guintoli (Dunlop Yamaha Tech 3) completed the top ten.
