- Hiroshi Aoyama starts from pole for the first time since the last race of 2006 at Valencia. Aoyamas only finish from his three visits to Sepang was fifth in 2005 after qualifying on pole.

- KTM have taken the top two places on the grid for the first time ever in the 250cc class.

- No KTM rider has previously managed to reach the finish in a 250cc GP at Sepang.

- The only scenario that would result in Jorge Lorenzo not winning the title in Malaysia would be if Andrea Dovizioso won the race and Lorenzo finished lower than eleventh.

- All nine of Jorge Lorenzos victories this year have come after he has qualified on pole position.

- The last time that Andrea Dovizioso crashed out of a Grand Prix was in Malaysia in 2005.
