Aspar: 'May the best man win!'

The scenario for the 125cc contest at the Gran Premio bwin.com de la Comunitat Valenciana could not have been better scripted - a home rider battling with his team-mate for the title at the final round of the World Championship.

Leader by ten points in the general standings, Gabor Talmacsi is set for a fight to the finish with local hero Hector Faubel and the duo's team manager Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar' has confirmed that there will be no team orders for the Bancaja Aspar pair during the race.

"This really has been a fantastic year, and it hasn't ended yet," said an elated Aspar at Sepang last week, having seen Talmacsi take victory and Faubel a podium spot.

"A lot of people come up to me and say ‘what a difficult situation to be in!', but I'm very happy. I'm sure that a lot of people in the paddock would like to be in our situation at the moment; first and second in the championship, assured of the world title and the highest scoring team. I just hope that the final race is like last year's for an exciting end to the year."

"There will be no team orders or strategy. The only thing that I have told the two is that they don't enter into a ´battle of crashes' because that is bad for them and gives a bad image to the team as well. Both riders deserve to be champion, so may the best man win," concluded Aspar, who won the 125cc title back in 1988.
