Elias signs with d'Antin for 2008

Toni Elias has been confirmed as the second rider in Luis d'Antin's satellite Ducati team for the 2008 season, having signed a deal with the outfit this week. The Spaniard had faced an uncertain future in MotoGP, with no deal in place for next season and Fausto Gresini not taking up the option of an extra year in his current Honda contract.

The 24 year old has one Grand Prix victory to his name, taken at an epic race in Portugal last year. This season he has had a mixed year onboard the 800cc Honda RC212V, with a best result of second place at Turkey in the third race of the campaign. He suffered a serious leg injury in Assen which forced him to miss three rounds of the World Championship, but has made a strong return with another podium at Motegi last month.

Elias will share a garage with Sylvain Guintoli, another new arrival to the team for 2008. The signing of Elias means that current Pramac d'Antin Ducati riders Alex Barros and Chaz Davies –a stand in rider for the last three rounds of 2007- will not continue with the team next year.
