The huge Spanish representation in the MotoGP World Championship means that the final race of the year, the Gran Premio bwin.com de la Comunitat Valenciana, will provide a little extra motivation for riders participating in their home race. One Spaniard who has hit a strong run of form at the end of the season is 250cc rider Hector Barbera, who hails precisely from the scene of next weekends finale.

Barbera has not finished a race outside the top eight this season, although three DNFs and a series of races in which he just missed out on the podium have prevented him from fully challenging the top three of Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis. Nonetheless, the Team Toth Aprilia man heads to his home race with the chance to take fourth place in the championship, trailing countryman Alvaro Bautista by 15 points.

The last two races have seen Barbera experience mixed fortunes, with strong qualifying performances blighted by crashes and engine failures. The Valencian rider has reason to be positive, however, with his best result of the year coming with a second at Sepang.

The result is good for my confidence, especially heading to my home race in Valencia. I am sure that this will mean I am in better form than ever there, said Barbera in Malaysia, after taking his third podium from the last five races.

A repeat of the 250cc riders 125cc success at Valencia, where he won back in 2004, would give Barbera double cause for celebration. He will turn 21 on the pre-Grand Prix Friday.
