Davies brings MotoGP sojourn to a close

Chaz Davies will conclude his three-race stint as a Pramac dAntin Ducati rider at Valencia, having replaced Alex Hofmann in the satellite team after the Germans acrimonious split with his employers after the race in Portugal.

Given a second outing on the Desmosedici GP7 before Hofmanns unceremonious dismissal, having impressed in a stand-in performance at Laguna Seca, Davies created enough interest within the team to warrant his being awarded the chance to ride in Australia, Malaysia and now Valencia.

Outside the points in his opening three MotoGP races, Davies now comes to a track which is more to his taste. The Briton has competed in races at Valencia every year since his arrival in the World Championship back in 2002, and holds his best ever result of fifth in the 250cc class at the 2004 Grand Prix at the circuit.

I like Valencia and have gone well there in the past, although I´ve found in both Phillip Island and Sepang it´s very different on the 800cc MotoGP bike,´ says the 20 year-old. ´There are a couple of things I want to try and sort out with the team, but if we can get a good clear run through practice and qualifying to the race, I´m confident we can do well. Also not many teams have tested the 800cc at Valencia which should be an advantage.

Unfortunately for Davies, Pramac dAntin are one of said teams to have only 990cc data available for the track. The substitute rider also has the small matter of national pride to uphold; If he does not finish in the top fifteen in Valencia it will be the first time since the Grand Prix series started in 1949 that there has been a full season without a British rider scoring points in the premier class.

An outside candidate for a ride with the team next year, the signing of Toni Elias to partner Sylvain Guintoli in 2008 means Davies will be looking at other options, which may include a Bridgestone testing role, a move to Team Roberts or a continuation of his fledgling career in the AMA championship.
