- Mika Kallio starts from pole for the second time in the 250cc class.

- Kallio has finished on the 125 podium for the last two years here, including a win in 2005.

- Jorge Lorenzo has started on the front row at every race this year except for Mugello, where he was 20th after a wet qualifying session.

- Lorenzo can set a new record for the most points scored in a single season in the 250cc class by finishing in the top two. The current record is 322 points, achieved by Daijiro Kato in 2001.

- Yuki Takahashi has qualified on the front row for the first time since Sachsenring last year, when he went on to win.

- Marco Simoncelli starts from the front row for the second time in the class the other occasion being at Estoril last year.

- Hector Barbera, who won the 125 race here in 2004, celebrated his 21st birthday on the first day of qualifying.

- Andrea Dovizioso starts from his lowest grid position since the opening race of the 2006 season at Jerez.
