Dovizioso's MotoGP JiR Team Scot structure unveiled

JiR and Kopron Team Scot have jointly announced their mutual MotoGP collaboration for next season which will see 2007 250cc World Championship runner-up Andrea Dovizioso move into the premier class for the 2008 campaign, under the tutelage of Gianluca Montiron.

JiR and Kopron Team Scot have jointly announced their mutual MotoGP collaboration for next season which will see 2007 250cc World Championship runner-up Andrea Dovizioso move into the premier class for the 2008 campaign, under the tutelage of Gianluca Montiron.

Having shown fantastic form this year the popular 21 year-old Italian Dovizioso gets a well deserved promotion to MotoGP and will be supplied with Michelin tyres while continuing to ride with Honda machinery. His team-mate from this season, 23 year-old Japanese rider Yuki Takahashi, will stay in the 250cc class as part of the new JiR Team Scot venture.

The exciting new structure announcement follows the news that JiR and 2007 sponsor Konica Minolta have parted ways and that Shinya Nakano is leaving the team to ride for Gresini Honda in the new year.

JiR boss Montiron commented: "Lining up a talented Italian rider such as Andrea Dovizioso – young, fast, and motivated – is a great satisfaction for my MotoGP team. In the 250cc class we will pursue the project dedicated to Japanese riders that we started in 2002 with Tetsuya Harada. Given the ongoing generational changes in the MotoGP class, I believe we need to invest in young riders."

Of his progression from the 250 scene Dovizioso explained: "Being part of the MotoGP class is a dream come true. I feel ready following my experience in the quarter-litre class, a category experiencing an increased level of competition compared to the past."

"I just regret not entering MotoGP as the World Champion of 250cc where I proved my skills and fought to the end. I am very happy to run in MotoGP alongside Honda and those people who have developed with me as a rider."
