Double 250cc World Champion Jorge Lorenzo got his first taste of MotoGP this afternoon at Valencias Ricardo Tormo circuit, onboard his new 2008 Yamaha M1 800cc prototype, but unsurprisingly he and fellow 2007 quarter litre class graduates Alex de Angelis and Andrea Dovizioso were the close to the bottom of the early provisional timesheet.

Indeed with two current World Champions lapping simultaneously recent MotoGP title winner Casey Stoner showed Lorenzo the way, with the Australian posting a lap time of 132.348s - to put him 0.828s ahead of second quickest participant Nicky Hayden so far, as the only rider to go round in under 133.

That time for Stoner is 0.4s under Dani Pedrosas circuit best lap, set by the Catalan rider on Sunday en route to victory.

Behind Stoner and Hayden thus far on the timesheet Rizla Suzukis Chris Vermeulen and Pedrosa have also been amongst the early pace setters, with the Repsol Honda riders using an updated RC212V from HRC. Meanwhile Vermeulens new team-mate Loris Capirossi is already lapping quickly onboard his new Suzuki machinery.

Of the riders moving up from 250cc for 2008 Dovizioso has lapped quickest so far, taking his JiR Team Scot Honda bike round just under three seconds slower than Stoner.
